“What I do know is he told me he looked up to my career as I progressed through the ranks, he talks to me a lot about the game and I’m eager to help him grow,” Kohli said.

In response to the ‘prince’ tag given to Gill by the former skipper’s fans, Kohli believes the veteran’s main job is to contribute to the team’s cause and impart his lessons to the youngsters.

“All these tags from King and Prince are great for the crowd, but the job of every senior cricketer is to help every youngster look after the youngsters and give them the insight you’ve experienced throughout your career so they can make their ups manage the ups and falls.

“I’ve had a good IPL and domestic season. I’ve become more confident as a batsman, but in the last year and a half I’ve also worked a lot on my fitness. I’ve worked on a few aspects of my batting. “The WTC final was the first game I played under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Rohit gives freedom to all the players and those are good qualities of a great captain,” he added.

The most important thing is the way he has played in the batting field . red ball. He did well in the Duleep Trophy last year. His numbers are really good,” said the veteran batsman.
