After Monday’s strong knockoff match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), where both teams played well and fought hard, there have been a few changes in the scoreboard, the orange cap as well as the purple cap.

Rinku Singh’s late performance helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a thrilling five-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the last ball at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday.

Captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s strong 42 off 23 balls helped KKR score 21 off 10 balls in Rinku’s last ball. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar managed to slow down KKR’s run rate, with Chahar scoring 51 runs and taking 2 wickets including Nitish Rana.

Earlier, PBKS opted to bat first and scored 179 for 7 on a slow surface, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring another fifty-five-over innings with 57 off 47 balls. KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty took 3 wickets and conceded just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With this win, KKR moved up to fifth place in the points table.

However, despite CSK suffering a heavy defeat, the former captain of the team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, stole the show with an impressive unbeaten half-century that goes back years. Dhoni came when CSK were 61/5 in 10.5 overs. The wicket-keeper batsman then scored 50 of CSK’s next 70 runs to take the team to a respectable score.

Dhoni, who scored an unbeaten half-century in 38 balls, not only holds the Orange Cap but also became the only player to score a half-century. Ajinkya Rahane came close to the former Chennai Super Kings skipper and opened the innings for KKR with an important 44 off 34 balls.
