The High Court in London on Wednesday cleared Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi of making ‘actionable false statements’, alleged by former Indian model-turned-investor Gurpreet Gill Mak in a legal challenge.

“Quantum has taken on a heavy burden in seeking to establish a difficult fraud case, which may now be considered impossible, not only in many specific aspects but also in structure. Its evidence is not strong enough for this task.” Concluding Remarks.

“Even if it is wrong, I do not believe that Mr. Modi has suffered any recoverable loss, apart from the $1 million investment subject to his contractual promise of repayment (which will now come up for trial),,” the judge added.

Separately, a judgment is expected for USD 800,000 owed to Max under the contract for their USD 1 million investment, of which Modi is said to have repaid USD 200,000.
