The High Court in London on Wednesday cleared Indian Premier League (IPL) founder Lalit Modi of making ‘actionable false statements’, alleged by former Indian model-turned-investor Gurpreet Gill Mak in a legal challenge.

Chancery Division judge Murray Rosen QC found that Modi had not tried to misrepresent matters to secure investment in a universal cancer treatment program since April 2018.

“I do not consider that there has been a quantum of proof that Mr. Modi was materially misrepresented with the meanings he alleges, or that he intended or understood those meanings,” Judge Rosen’s report noted.

The case, filed by Singapore-based Indian-origin Gurpreet Gill Mag, revolved around what Modi said and offered to her and her husband, a Swiss banker, during a meeting in a hotel suite.
