Ahead of the five-match Test series in India, former Indian cricketer Reetinder Singh Sodhi has described the Indian opener as the best batsman in the world and said he can take matches away from the opposition.

Team India To Play 4 Tests, 3 Odis And 14 T20is At Home

India all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi has praised Rohit Sharma and said the right-handed batsman has impressed his authority in Test cricket. While Rohit has been India’s mainstay in the limited-overs format for several years now, it has taken him time to become a consistent member of the Test team.

Rohit’s superb performance as an opener in the Test series against South Africa in 2019 made his way into the team, and solidified his consistent status as a starter for two years.

He started in both the innings of the Shell World Championship final but he could not put on a big total in the match. Ahead of the five-match Test series in India, Sodhi described Rohit as the best batsman in the world and said he can take matches away from the opposition.

“A lot here depends on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara – how these three batsmen shape up in the upcoming series. We all know that, in his distinction, Rohit Sharma is the best batsman in the world, “Sodhi said India. News

“He has definitely struggled in Test cricket if we talk about some time back, but now he has carved his authority in Test cricket. He is a special player as an opener when he plays up the match for the opposition at crucial moments .” he added.

India T20 World Cup Squad Updated: Full Players List, Team News, Injuries

India enter another ICC tournament with over a billion people and their talented team to win silverware for the first time by lifting the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England.

With the T20I series coming up against South Africa, Ireland and England before the big dance, the real challenge for the sub-continental giants is to choose the right combination from the abundant talent pool of players.

In the initial poll, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli seem to have sealed their place in the team.

While these three would have been selected at some point, the recent form of Sharma and Virat Kohli is a matter of concern. Combining just two fifties in 28 innings between the two at an average of 19.14 for Sharma and 23.76 for Kohli in the IPL, raised huge red flags in the World Cup year.

If India continues with this trio, it also means they have three right people at the top.

Interestingly, six of the previous seven winners of the ICC T20 World Cup, the left-handed right-hander in the final against Pakistan (2010) was the only exception.

Apart from his consistent IPL numbers, Dhawan has a history of performing well in ICC events with an average of 53.70 in the ICC Cricket World Cup and 77.88 in the ICC Champions Trophy. He was awarded the player of the tournament in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and also has a fond memory of Australia’s solo double centuries in ODIs and T20Is at an average of 33.87.

Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal and Ruturaj Gaikwad who have done well in the opening innings for their respective IPL franchises could be the potential options. The biggest concern when reading anyone from this batch is their lack of experience with only four combined 15 T20Is, while Kishan’s 10 T20Is make up this huge total.

With 8 Captains In 1 Year, The Indian Cricket Team Is A Puzzle Too Complex For BCCI

Finding a consistent middle order and replacing the seemingly impossible task of MS Dhoni’s performance could take care of India.

Last year we saw Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya taking turns to fill this void. While Pant would remain indispensable as the primary wicket-keeper option, the team still needs a more assured finish in their ranks.

In Pandya, India have a versatile bowler who bats in multiple positions depending on the situation. Even unlike Iyer and Yadav, who played just one game between them in Australia, the Gujarat Titans captain had an incredible run under 2020.

Pandya averaged 105 thanks to two big ranks of 90 and 92* in the three-match ODI series, and also won the man of the match award in the T20I series against the hosts. Confidence has never wavered for the all-rounder, but his role in the IPL seems to have filled the newly sought-after leadership at the top of the pool. The perfect blend of form and experience if India are looking for additional options is Dinesh Karthik. Not only was he part of the title-winning teams in both the 2007 T20 World Trophy and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, he averaged 57.40 and scored 191.33 for challengers Royal Bangalore in that year’s IPL.

Indian Test Team Hit By Covid 19, Player Tests Positive

He has made his case to the best of his ability, but will the selectors take a leap of faith and add Karthik to the World Cup squad?

India’s preference, or dependence, on a good spin attack is no secret, and we could see them continue to play to their strengths this October.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from the India 2021 squad was the biggest talking point ahead of the T20 World Cup. As the leg-spinner turned the page, he added a new franchise in the IPL and with 26 wickets to his name, he now sits at the top of the table for most wickets this season.

Kuldeep Yadav has been in equally good form in the last two months taking 21 wickets, while veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has shown his versatility and efficiency with the bat, scoring a knock of 146 with an average of thirty.

India Extend Unbeaten Run In Home Test Series To 10 Years!

These three good choices have already been named and we have not mentioned the ever reliable Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder, who is a mainstay in the T20I squad, had a less-than-ideal IPL season that started with a poor captaincy spell with Chennai Super Kings and was eventually ruled out of the tournament with an injury.

Now it will not be surprising if three or even all four of these weavers make it to Australia and the likes of Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi are out of luck.

If one were to plot the growth rate of quality in India from 1990 to 2022, this graph would point in a positive direction. Fans will remember relying on only a few fast bowlers to pick up wickets with the likes of Manoj Prabhakar, Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad carrying the mantle for most of the 1990s.

But those days are gone. The current bowling line-up in India is arguably the best it has ever been and the depth has backed up the claim.

Indian Cricket Players

It is difficult to find many better deaths in the world than Jasprit Bumrah. His batting partner Mohammed Shami brings discipline at the top of the innings and with the pace duo having 683 international wickets between them, experience should not be an issue.

But this is where things get tricky for the Indian selectors, with many pacers potentially putting their hands up for the final quickball spot in the starting XI.

Harshal Patel continues to be a death threat to all IPL opponents with 18 wickets and the variety he offers, he can be the precursor to partner Bumrah to complete the innings.

On the other hand, the Punjab Kings offer the formation of Arshdeep Singh and more importantly, a left arm bowling option. Four of the previous seven T20 World Cup winners had at least one left-arm batsman in the final team.

The only other left-arm pacer that India could look at was T. Natarajan who also picked up 18 wickets but conceded a rather costly 9.44 runs.

Then we are the wildest of all wild and Umran Malik breaks all the glass ceiling with a unique step. Not only has Malik consistently moved around the 150kmph mark, he also has 21 wickets in this year’s IPL which puts him in the top five wickets for the season.

It’s not a substitute for a raw class and it’s probably one of the only features you can’t
